These premiums are based upon wages paid by your organisation.

Included in wages paid would be:

  • Wages
  • Commissions
  • Allowances
  • Superannuation
  • Payments to subcontractors who are deemed employees
  • Dividend or trust distribution to owners in lieu of wages.

Auditors are engaged by the insurers to from time to time verify your declarations.

We are often asked what basis do they choose the targets for audit from. Whilst there is no clear cut basis, invariably if you have not lodged an annual declaration, the likelihood of you being audited is increased.

The principal risk factors that cause problems  for Workers Compensation premium assessment during an audit relate to the latter 2 dot points. It is not possible to fully define all the issues to be addressed in this article. Needless to say, it would be in your interests to have your annual declaration of actual wages confirmed by us.

I met James Davis from HQB about 6 - 7 years ago when we were looking for an accountant that would suit our needs better and provide the advice that would steer us into the future.At the time I sat in front of James and fired so many questions, scenarios, future plans etc and James did not bat an eyelid. HQB accountants are the best. They have pointed things out to me that my previous accountant didn't. They got me set up and straightened out all my accounts to ensure I was complying with with regulators. I now know my accounts are in good order.
