Last night I stepped out of my comfort zone (and the reality of 30 June) to participate in the C.ex Community Crew Sleep Out.
While the night started with mild weather and good conversation, the reality hit home at 3am when the rain came in. Thankfully, there was plenty of undercover shelter in the stadium for the 100 or so attendees but concrete bedding and a simple sleeping bag are hardly what you would call creature comforts.
I am told they have raised over $60,000 and more importantly all the money goes to selected local charities. It was particularly interesting chatting with the people from Homes for Heroes, to understand a few of the issues a number of our armed forces personnel face when they finish their active duty. The other support groups benefiting from the money raised include Warrina Women & Children’s Refuge and The Men’s Resource Centre.
If anyone would still like to donate to this cause, it’s not too late. You can do so by clicking on this link: https://cexcommunitycrewsleepout.gofundraise.com.au/page/IanHogbin
Special thanks to the crew at C.ex for organising the event.
