Cyclone Alfred’s heavy rains and winds are expected to leave many communities affected. Disaster relief is available, particularly in relation to their Australian Taxation Office (ATO) obligations. The ATO provides key resources to assist those affected by natural disasters, including flood support options.

If you or someone you know are dealing with the impact of Cyclone Alfred, here are some support options offered by the ATO:

  • Tax Relief and Lodgement Deferrals: The ATO understands that tax may not be top of mind during recovery. They offer lodgement deferrals for those affected, allowing extra time to meet tax obligations without penalties.
  • Payment Extensions and Remissions: The ATO offers payment extensions and the possibility to have penalties or interest on overdue taxes waived.
  • Emergency Support Line: For personalised support, the ATO’s emergency support line (1800 806 218) is available to guide flood-impacted taxpayers through their options, whether that involves extending deadlines, restructuring payment plans, or rebuilding lost records.

The ATO encourages affected individuals to contact them directly to discuss available options and ensure a smoother path to recovery. However, the team at HQB is always available to assist our clients, should they need it.

I met James Davis from HQB about 6 - 7 years ago when we were looking for an accountant that would suit our needs better and provide the advice that would steer us into the future.At the time I sat in front of James and fired so many questions, scenarios, future plans etc and James did not bat an eyelid.
